I met God at the corner shop, she was looking kinda lonely so I gave her a nod. She smiled back and we started to talk. She said, 'Ain't it strange that there are so many different kinds of tea and could you reach the blue one on the highest shelf for me?' Sure God, whatever you want. And then she asked me if I had some time for a coffee. And I said, 'I've been dreaming all of my life to have a coffee with you.' She said, 'How lovely, nowadays most people are in a hurry. They have lists and plans and stuff they need to do and don't get me wrong, there's a lot to be said for having a plan, there's a lot to be gained from acting fast, there's a whole lot of sense in being direct. But then again, the good stuff seems to happen when you're on a detour. Come find me on a detour,' She paid for her tea and then we went outside, the sun shone bright and the cars sped by. She said, 'I've been meaning to look into that, but I guess I got a little sidetracked, cause sometimes I lose track of time and sometimes I don't mind and let it all just drift away and then I find myself again on a detour, on a detour, you'll find me on a detour.' 'There's a lot to be said for having a plan, there's a lot to be gained from acting fast, there's a whole lot of sense in being direct, but then again, the good stuff seems to happen when you're on a detour, on a detour, on a detour, come join me on a detour'

Of the thousand times you made me laugh Never thought the last would come so fast Never thought I'd have to say goodbye To the brilliant fire of your eyes But I will meet you at the other side We'll have a little drink and do a little dance and then Keep it up until the morning light When you put on your favorite tune, put on your favorite tune Put on your favorite tune just one more time Your joke was quick, your laugh was loud How I'd long to hear it now And watch you dance across a room Your hands up high, your smile in bloom But I will meet you at the other side We'll have a little drink and do a little dance and then Keep it up until the morning light When you put on your favorite tune, put on your favorite tune Put on your favorite tune just one more time You told us not to worry Most of all not to be sorry But to trust in love And you taught us to be grateful A thousand different things that you were thankful of With your big heart Oh babe, I'll meet you at the other side We'll have a little drink and do a little dance and then Keep it up until the morning light When you put on your favorite tune, put on your favorite tune Put on your favorite tune just one more time

It sure sounds funny When you say it out loud How you really don't want me To stay around You've made your choices You're gonna see them through So there's nothing left for me to do But to wish you well I wish you, I wish you well I wish you, I wish you well A thousand nights we Crossed a thousand seas I held you through the hurt And you held on to me But you don't wanna remember You say it just ain't true So there's nothing left for me to do But to wish you well I wish you, I wish you well I wish you, I wish you well And one last thing babe Before I go If you ever change your mind I just want you to know That I will be waiting I'll always keep the light on So you can find your way back home And I wish you would I wish you, I wish you would I wish you, I wish you would

The light is red The rain is soft
The pavement shines
Above the tram Neon lights
Flicker out
The garbagemen pick up their cans
And trust their worried whispers to the wind She picks them up With gentle hands
And sets them free I'd long to follow suit
Over the grey slate roofs
Up through the darkening clouds Right out of this town
And come down real slow
At the bend of the river Where the cottonwoods grow The light turns green The cars pull up
A baby cries
Up in the trees The parakeets
Screech loud and bright
 The garbagemen jump on again
And ride the truck like it's an ocean wave Of endless blue A stretched out hand
To ease the way I'd long to follow suit
Over the grey slate roofs
Up through the darkening clouds Right out of this town
And come down real slow
At the bend of the river Where the cottonwoods grow

That Time This Time It’s that time of the year again Trees turn out in misty green Sun is creeping up my skin again And I hear girls sing I will call you up again And ask: 'how are you?' I will laugh at your jokes again This time I’ll be true This time I wont give up This time I wont run off This time I’ll know just what to say I wont back away, I will keep it up This time I wont say no This time I wont let go This time I’ll be all that you need You can leave it to me I will be enough I’ll take out my red dress Put on my dancing shoes Brush my hair till it shines And go out to meet you You’ll pour me my magic drink The one that comes with a straw That fizzes and sizzles and sparks Like my fluttering heart And we’ll laugh at the girls on Friday parade How they jiggle and waggle and play with their shades High on their heads and low on their noses This time I wont give up This time I wont run off This time I ll know just what to say I wont back away, I will keep it up This time I wont say no This time I wont let go This time I’ll be all that you need Leave it to me I will be enough

I breathe in Your skin From the hollow Where your neck begins I leave my Lips to Linger on Your collarbone Raise my hands above your spine Trace my fingers down Along the edge of where we start And weld us into one For I am made of flesh that folds Around your bones I am made of skin that glows and glistens as it listens To the flow of your blood Between the beats of your heart Chase their ways through all your limbs And lead them into mine Along the bends, the twists the curves As yours turns into mine For I am made of flesh that folds Around your bones I am made of skin that glows and glistens As it listens

Of what we cannot speak we do not speak Of all the wounds that are too deep We bury them beneath our love Between the promises we keep We don’t do possibilities We do what works for us We have no other remedies They got lost with what we lost And I, I do not complain We’ve made it through We’re on our feet again And in the wee hours of a looming day Please tell me that’s ok The wind picks up a plastic bag Blows it up against the fence It lingers there and then falls back again Someone kicks it as they pass Was I guilty, was I innocent Was I a witness or a thief Did I steel your dirty memories Did I cleanse them with my grief And I, I do not complain We’ve made it through We’re on our feet again And in the wee hours of a looming day Please tell me that’s ok Burn all the bridges behind us Tear all flesh from the bone I’ll be brave like a newborn I have nothing to atone for Of what we cannot speak we do not speak Of all the wounds that are too deep We bury them beneath our love Between the promises we keep

I did not blow up any buildings I did not wage no phoney wars I did not ask for admiration Or drew attention to my words I was humble, I was easy I was quiet, I was kind I looked out for my neighbours In the deadest of the night And you think you can ignore me Or freeze me up in fear But I stand with the many And our whispers will begin To fill up your voids And to rise over your walls One by one we will join Our hands across your borders Two by two we will chose To stand up for each other Your hate it shouts But love speaks louder still I turned the other cheek I payed my income tax I took care of those in need And tried to give them hope again I built your cars, laid down your streets I cooked your meals and cleaned Your restaurants, your trains and planes And I taught your kids to read And you think you can deride me And take away my pride But I stand with the many And our whispers will collide To fill up your voids And to rise over your walls One by one we will join Our hands across your borders Two by two we will chose To stand up for each other Your hate it shouts But love speaks louder still
