At the end of a very long night in a club in Berlin, when most of the dancers had given up, the dance floor was dirty, the techno still pounding hard, one of my dearest friends kept dancing in this beautiful, elegant way that is completely hers. She looked like she belonged to a different realm, like she made up for all the ugliness around her singlehandedly. This is my ode to her, to the female form and to the joy of watching friends dance. 'Carolina's Anatomy' is the second single of the album MOLTEN ROCK and was Today's Top Tune at KCRW.
lyrics
Carolina's Anatomy
Carolina dances on the roof beneath the starlight
as she sways to the beat of the drum machine
Holds her hands out to the sky, lets all worry pass her by
she sways to the beat of the drum machine
Have you ever been this close to feeling no remorse
and being where you want to be
Carolina smiles and opens her eyes
as she sways to the beat of the drum machine
Turns her shoulders bare and tosses her hair
and it sways to the beat of the drum machine
Have you ever been this close to feeling no remorse
and being where you want to be
Carolina, Carolina, Carolina, Carolina
Carolina’s hips they do a certain little twist
where you can almost get your head around.
Let’s her twirling legs move along the edge
to where the music is not that loud
Have you ever been this close to feeling no remorse
and being where you want to be
Carolina, Carolina, Carolina, Carolina
Carolina’s feet then move to your seat
Where she sits down next to you
Takes your hand, lifts it to her lips
And with the softest kiss
She gets you there

With her rich lyrics and sober alt folk craft Amsterdam singer-songwriter VanWyck has released 4 albums: 'An Average Woman' in 2018, 'Molten Rock' in 2019, 'God is in the Detour' in 2020 and 'The Epic Tale of the Stranded Man' in 2022.
So many voices get lost in history. These songs almost disappeared, like the woman who wrote them. They are haunting, enigmatic and filled with dark humor. I love 'Roving Woman', my personal anthem. VanWyck
On “Meet Me By the River,” Dawn Landes’s self-described “Nashville record,” buoyant country melodies settle deep into lush instrumentation. Bandcamp New & Notable May 7, 2018
